Even though wearing a beautiful bridal gown a bride doesn’t look like a real bride without a tiara. It is the finishing touch – the crowning glory.

After your wedding you will take off your veil (if hugging relatives haven’t pulled it off your head already!) and dance the night away, still be wearing your tiara. A tiara accents your hairstyle, complements your wedding dress and brings attention up from your bridal gown back to your face.

I firmly believe that you should wear what you like, if you are happy and it makes you feel good then that is all that matters! However it isn’t every day that you get to wear a tiara (mores the pity!) and it may seem a bit overwhelming, so here are some helpful hints on choosing the ideal tiara for you.

Obvious but true – choose your dress first!
I know it may seem like teaching my grandmother to suck eggs (which she did rather well I have to say) but choose your wedding dress first and then you can decide on the best accessories to complement it.
Knowing things like neckline, fabric and any detailing is essential for deciding on what jewellery should be worn.

Details in your wedding dress such as pearl beading can be echoed in your jewellery. If your wedding dress has a design such as flowers or butterflies you may want to use that as a template for your accessories.

How tall?
How tall is your groom? If he is a lot taller than you then a tiara is a good way for you to add some height. However if he isn’t you don’t want to add too much height as it will look like you are towering over him!
I can make your tiara to any height, so don’t worry if you have seen one of my designs you like but it looks too high – I can easily make it lower for you.

Hairstyle
Having an idea of how you are going to wear your hair on the day is helpful. The majority of our tiaras look great with any hairstyle but knowing how best to secure the tiara will be dictated by your hairstyle.
I make my tiaras with loops at each end and I attach a removable chain so that the tiara can be slightly tightened to ensure it is firm. Pins can be put through the loops and also on the chain, I don’t want you worrying that your tiara is slipping!

I also make the tiaras oval so they sit properly on your head unlike the cheap tiaras which are round – nobody has a round head!

If you are wearing a veil, this can be attached behind the tiara.

Short Hair
Tiaras look absolutely fab with short hair. Remember though that pins and grips don’t stay in place as easily and so you don’t want to choose a tiara that is too heavy. Also a headband or headband style of tiara would be stunning too!

Up Do’s
Choose a tiara with a high front if you are having your hair piled up as a small tiara will get lost! Alternatively, you could use hair combs, grips or pins which look great especially pinned along the edge of a French pleat or scattered through your hair.

Down Do’s
If you are wearing your hair down then the tiara World’s your oyster! Alternatively you could wear a headband to keep the hair off your face.

Other Jewellery
You may have decided to wear some sentimental jewellery on your day, keep this in mind when deciding on the other accessories. Let me know if you are wearing some existing jewellery so we can look at a designing a tiara to complement it.

Your face shape
Although I am a firm believer in wearing whatever you like I know some advice may be welcome!

Round Face
A tiara that adds height is ideal as it elongates your face. Choose a high fronted tiara or one that comes to a point in the centre.

Long Face
In contrast if you have a long face avoid choosing a tall tiara as it will make your face look even longer. Choose a low fronted tiara or headband. A circlet will help to foreshorten your face and looks fab!

Oval Face
You are lucky, most tiara styles will suit you although avoid tiaras with a peak at the top as this will elongate your face. Lower fronted tiaras are probably the most flattering.

Heart Shaped Face
To even out your face shape create some fullness at your jawline. The easiest way to do this is with your hairstyle or a veil. Choose a tiara with multi heights or step-style layers that will draw attention away from a pointy chin.
